Filmmaker Mike Akel brings his latest film to the festival after taking home both the Narrative Feature Jury and Audience Awards at the 2006 Austin Film Festival for his debut feature, CHALK. AN ORDINARY FAMILY introduces us to the adult children of the Biederman family and their significant others as they gather for their annual summer reunion. The eldest brother, Thomas, is a married minister with deeply held religious convictions about what "family" means. However, things get tense when his recently outed brother, Seth, brings home his new boyfriend to meet everyone. Each family member has a different reaction, but Thomas is the most conflicted about his brother's new life. Akel has the unique ability as a filmmaker to observe and expose the small moments in people's lives as dynamic scenes, making the awkward things very significant.
